The NFPA Conference & Expo is coming to Las Vegas June 22–24 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center and if you run a fire inspection company it's worth paying attention to — even if you're not going.

Over 8,000 fire and life safety professionals from more than 60 countries will be walking that floor evaluating products, comparing software, and making decisions about how they run their operations for the next few years. The vendors who show up there are betting that face time with your peers translates into contracts.

But here's what nobody tells you before you go: most of what's on that floor was built for large enterprises and municipalities, not for the independent fire inspection contractor or the regional company running 10 to 50 inspectors across multiple states. The booths look impressive. The demos are polished. The pricing conversations happen after the show.

So if you're going — or if you're sending someone — here's what to actually evaluate.

Does It Handle NFPA 10, 25, and 72 Natively?

This sounds obvious but it isn't. A lot of field service software has been adapted for fire inspection rather than built for it. There's a difference. Native NFPA support means the checklist items reference the actual code sections and edition years, compliance status escalates correctly from pass to deficiency to impairment, and the report output matches what your clients and AHJs actually expect to receive.

Ask any vendor at the conference: show me an NFPA 72 checklist with edition year references on every line item. If they have to think about it, you have your answer.

How Does It Handle Brycer Submissions?

If you submit to Brycer — and most fire inspection companies operating in the US do — this is non-negotiable. Ask every software vendor on that floor: how does your product handle Brycer submissions? The honest answer from most of them will be that their software generates a report and then you rekey everything into Brycer by hand.

That's the status quo. It's also the biggest time sink in most fire inspection offices. The right answer is a Brycer prep workflow that pulls your inspection data onto a single formatted screen so your office can copy and paste instead of retype. It exists. Ask for it specifically.

Can It Handle Multiple Regions With One Login?

If you operate across more than one city or state, single-region software will eventually become your biggest operational headache. You need a platform where a company admin sees everything — every inspector, every job, every region — while individual inspectors only see their own territory. Role-based regional access isn't a nice-to-have. It's the difference between running your company and chasing it.

What Does the Customer Portal Look Like?

Building owners and facility managers are increasingly expecting digital access to their inspection history. A customer portal — where your clients can log in, see their assets on file, check upcoming inspection dates, and download completed reports — is quickly becoming table stakes. If a vendor at the conference can't show you a live customer portal demo, note that gap.

Joint Commission Format for Healthcare Clients?

If any part of your business touches hospitals or healthcare facilities you already know the Joint Commission EC.02.03.05 requirement. Ask any software vendor: can your system generate an EC.02.03.05 formatted report from an NFPA 72 inspection with one click? That question will separate the vendors who understand your market from the ones who are guessing.

The Bottom Line

The NFPA Conference is a great place to see what the industry is building and where it's going. Go in with specific questions and don't let a polished demo substitute for a real answer. The best software for your company is the one built for fire inspection specifically — not adapted from field service management and dressed up for the trade show floor.

Fire Inspect Hub won't be at Booth anything in Las Vegas this June. But if you want to see what purpose-built fire inspection software looks like before you make any decisions at the conference, you can start for free at fireinspecthub.com.
